Sojourning traveler, you have been traveling for many days and months and years. Some of them were a stroll in the park, but others have been oh so very hard. An uphill climb, a crawl through the mud, a trudging on and on and on.
Tired traveler, this world is not your home. You are just passing through. And sometimes this world can leave you weary. Exhausted and drained and weary.
Weary traveler, I can’t tell you that it will get easier or that it was not meant to be this hard because that is a lie. This life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. It’s hard and sometimes it hurts. But this journey is not the end of the story.
This journey, this path – it’s not your home. Find comfort in knowing that you are only traveling through. And that all of this hard and strenuous work is bringing you closer to home. One day at a time, one step at a time.
Traveler, you’re not doing this alone.
There are others, too, who are fighting on, like you are. There are others on the same path. Their stories and journeys are different from yours, but they, too, are on their way to the coming kingdom. They, too, are plodding on, sometimes well and sometimes exhausted.
Sojourner, while walking this path, don’t forget those who aren’t on this way to eternity. Remember that they are watching you to see if you mean it, to see if you’re real. Fellow traveler, don’t let your exhaustion keep you from pointing others to the Way.
And, weary traveler, when the nights get longer and the going gets harder than ever before, when it seems like there’s no one there to walk beside to pull you along, don’t forget that even when it feels like you’re alone, you’re not.
There is One who goes beside you, holds your hand when you’re scared. He will even carry you when you have no energy left to take even one more step.
In this road to heaven, you have been given the gift of the Comforter, and in your darkest hour, He will remind you of the eternal promises. People will come and go, but these promises will last forever.
Promises like, He will never forsake you (Deut. 31:6).
And that His grace is sufficient for you (2 Cor. 12:9).
And that no matter how hard this world may seem, He has already overcome it (John 16:33).
Traveler, soon you will be there.
Your heart may be tired, but your tired heart is not the end. Press on, friend, press on towards the goal.
Dear sojourner, before you know it, you will be home. You will be dancing on the streets of gold. You will be dining at the feast of the lamb. You will be kneeling before your Lord and King.
Every hard step taken here on earth for Him will be worth it. Every struggle you fought through, every time you wanted to give up, but didn’t – it will all be worth it. For an eternity with Him.
So traveler, when you feel too exhausted to keep going, remember His promises and take just one more step.
And please, my friend and fellow traveler, don’t forget that so very, very soon you will be home.
