“Step forth, young soul, upon the Road,

Onward to your true abode.”

So sings the wind into my heart

And on its breath I make my start.

Onward, onward weary feet

Beyond the shroud of mist and sleet.

The wind is calling, sweeping on

Leading me into the dawn.

And on the wind’s eternal strain

I feel a beauty near to pain:

For there, upon the heavens flung

A chain of holy stars is strung —

Star by star and light by light,

Leading forward through the night.

And then, in awe, I bow my head

And look upon my stumbling tread.

Who am I to have such guides

Of star and wind voice on all sides?

Who am I, so weak and small

To hear the great wind’s mighty call?

Then star and wind both bend their song

Upon me on the straight Road long:

“You are worthy, child of Light,

In joy we haste to give you flight.

Have strength to walk where faithful trod

Oh you beloved child of God.”
